Sneak Peek: The Blogcademy Magazine!

Blogcademy Magazine

We wanted to give the attendees of the upcoming Blogcademy workshop a memento that contained jump-starts to making their weekend a success: an exclusive print magazine. Kat, Gala and I each wrote articles pertaining to the topics we will be covering and also developed four activities inside. Additionally, we included the class schedule, room for notes, our contact information and a personal letter welcoming attendees to the course. Beyond that, we compiled a list of our favorite books and quotes.

Blogcademy Magazine

This first edition is 36 pages of content we believe in and we hope it will serve as a reminder to our Blogcademy class that this is just the beginning of their blogging journeys. The print copies will be arriving this week and we couldn’t be more excited! And, we can’t wait to meet all of you!!

The Blogcademy Pins!

The Blogcademy Pins

In an ongoing effort to share our sources for our collateral, The Blogcademy just had pins made through One Inch Round. The pricing was reasonable, the service was quick and the customer service was super prompt and helpful. Two thumbs up!

One of the main reasons we went with One Inch Round is because they’re based in Portland and offer you the option to save on shipping in return for local pick-up. I couldn’t be happier with the quality and outcome. I should mention that we went with the 1.25 inch size so the type is legible and crisp but the pin still feels wearable.

We’ve now got pins, business cards, stickers and rubber stamps! But of course, we’re saving the best for last. Stay tuned!

Meet Our NYC Scholarship Winner

Julia, we love you so much for the effort you put into your scholarship video. You made our decision easy! Gala was particularly vocal and ridiculously over-excited about the prospect of having another Kiwi at The Blogcademy…

And this was her response when we emailed her to tell her she’d won!

Woah….

This is just what went down in my flat…

Oh! new email….OOooooohhhhh NEW EMAIL FROM BLOCADEMY! ech!

OOOOOoooOOOOOh it’s long…and the first sentence….Holy crap…SCREAMmmmy screechhh! Laptop and me to the floor while flatties leap up looking at me in terror having received obviously shocking news!!….tears. Hugs! A top up of the bubbles! And then off to call clever clever John Jo who helped make the vid and then Mum and Dad who said ” YOU DIDN”T?!?!?!”

Guys, this is just nuts and very exciting!! While I had had pretend scans of New York flights and accommo while procrastinating at work I didn’t actually think I would end up winning and putting myself in a situation where I simply HAD to go to NY no matter what my bank account was yelling at me! So thanks so much, talk about best foot forward! I am actualllllyyyyy going to go to MOMA and Jonathon Adler and Central Park and as all my flatmates have said bump into the cast of “Friends” no doubt.

So thanks for giving me the opportunity and push in the right direction ladies. Simply can’t wait to meet you all!

Pack those bags Julia and we’ll see you in New York City baby!

Meet The Blogcademy Volunteer(s)!

Doucette Duvall

Over the past month we received more applications to be our Blogcademy Volunteer than we could have ever anticipated! It took us a while, but after fighting it out we all came to the same conclusion – that we couldn’t pick just one. So instead we’ve opted for two of our fabulous applicants to come an join us and help us make the very first Blogcademy happen! When you read these short snippets taken from their applications I’m sure you’ll see why we fell in love with them.

Nicole

“My name is Nikki and I have been a devoted follower of Gala Darling for quite some time now, as well as a more recent, but just as enthralled, follower of Lady Kat and Madame Shauna. When I first received news of The Blogcademy, I started scrambling trying to figure out what I could possibly sell in order to attend this much needed workshop. I then spotted the news about the hunt for one lucky scholarship winner! I was preparing my video submission for the scholarship when I received the email about your need for a volunteer. And I thought to myself, “The Blog Gods have opened up the heavens and sent down endless opportunities for me!”

Megan

“My name is Megan, and I moved to New York from Northern California to pursue my dream of working in television about a year ago. Shortly after moving, I started working at a television production company that specializes in producing animal/pet content for television networks. We’re currently working on a show for Animal Planet, about the best moments in pop culture from this year (The Olympics, The Voice, Tim Tebow, etc) reenacted by puppies.”

I don’t know about you, but I certainly want to know more about that

Nicole & Megan we can’t wait to meet you!

Collateral Update: Business Cards and Stickers!

The Blogcademy Collateral

We’ve been hard at work as of late designing all our business collateral and in an ongoing effort to help you outfit your own business in style, we’re sharing our sources! We wanted our cards to be premium in both look and feel but also budget-friendly and that’s where Moo came in. A lot has changed over at Moo in the last few years; it’s not just mini cards these days!

The Blogcademy Collateral

Have you seen the latest addition to their offerings, the Luxe Business Cards? Featuring Mohawk Superfine paper merged with a rich seam of color (we chose black for these), the quality is really awesome. The matte finish has a noticeably tactile texture and the saturation of the inks is top notch.

The Blogcademy Collateral

Of course, when it comes to branding our business, we couldn’t stop at just business cards. Moo also offers stickers in a number of formats and out favorite part is that you can upload multiple designs to be printed in the same pack! How cool is that? We have plans to use these to seal official correspondence. It’s all about those finishing touches, after all. We have some more goodies in the works — stay tuned!

Wanted: An NYC Volunteer!

It’s amazing to think that we sold out all 30 Blogcademy spots in under a week! To say that we are overwhelmed by the response is a massive understatement! For ages, I’ve had a feeling that learning about blogging in a cool, fun, intimate environment would be something people were excited about. It’s so lovely to be right, & I can’t even begin to tell you HOW HYPED Nubby, Kat & I are to meet all our students (!!!) & talk about our favourite subject for a whole weekend!

Of course, putting together a workshop of this magnitude takes a lot of work, & for this reason, we’re seeking a NYC-based volunteer to help us out.

You’ll be…

+ Putting together goodie bags
+ Picking up snacks
+ Helping to hang up decorations
+ Making trips to the party store (aww yeah!)
+ Setting up a projector
+ …& doing general administrative tasks. Because this is our first Blogcademy, we’re all going to be flying by the seats of our pants a little bit — so a positive attitude & willingness to pitch in will be essential!

This is an unpaid opportunity, but you will be attending The Blogcademy for free, as well as taking home one of those fabulous goodie bags! (Trust: they are CRAZY GOOD.)

We won’t need your help until the start of October, & even then, other than the weekend of The Blogcademy — October 20th & 21st — we will only need you for a couple of days prior, probably the 15th & the 19th. It’s not a major time commitment but we will really need your help, so please only apply if you’re 100% devoted to the opportunity!

Oh… Nubby wanted me to add that if you can moonwalk, we might be biased towards you!

To apply for the volunteer position, send us an email outlining your experience & why you think you’d make a bad-ass volunteer!

You have two weeks to send in your applications… !

Good luck!

SOLD OUT!

We’re over the moon to announce that The Blogcademy sold out in under a week!  Thank you so much for your enthusiasm, and we’re looking forward to bringing more Blogcademys to fantastic locations the world over!

Would you like us to come to your city?  Add yourself to our mailing list, and we can let you know when we do!

We love you!

Updates and Anticipation

Emma Summerton for The New York Times

GOSH it’s been an exciting week at the International House of Bloggers, with nearly all the seats for the first graduating class of The Blogcademy selling out in under a week! Yes, that’s right, we’ve only got a few spaces remaining so if you’re considering signing up, don’t delay!

It’s been so thrilling to chat to our attendees (and future attendees!) via Facebook and Twitter. There’s a real buzz of excitement and anticipation and we’re loving it!

Nubby has been working super hard on all the branding materials and design work for the event — I’m pretty sure that girl doesn’t actually sleep. We are so grateful to have her on-board: this girl really walks her talk! When she does something, she goes all in. We already have stamps, stickers and report cards! (Am I the only one who really nerds out on ordering new stationery?!)

In other news, we’ve been lining up some epic treasures to put in the goodie bags. You’re seriously going to flip out when you peek inside your bag! Sparkles for EVERYONE!

We’re also delighted to announce that we have an extra special guest speaker, Paige from Blogads! Blogads serve all the advertisements on Gala’s site and they have been working together for years. Paige is coming along to divulge the secrets of monetising your blog via advertising sales, as well as answer any questions you might have on the subject. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for our attendees to talk, face to face, with a company who assist many bloggers in making the big bucks!

Oh… Did you submit your scholarship application yet?!

Until next time lovers…

Rubber Stamp Lovers!

The Blogcademy Rubber Stamps
At The Blogcademy, we’ve been working on getting the rest of our branded collateral together. Pulling directly from our Identity Guide, we took some of our favorite elements and had them made into rubber stamps!

The Blogcademy Rubber Stamps
In case you’re wondering, we order all our stamps through Simon’s Stamps. Speedy service, great rates and old school wooden handles make them the best around, hands down. Happy stamping!

The Blogcademy Scholarship Programme

Just wow you guys! We’ve been utterly blown away by the response to The Blogcademy announcement yesterday. Spaces have been selling super quickly and we’ve got people flying into New York from all over the world to attend. We are SO EXCITED to meet you all and to make fun of each other’s crazy accents!

I just wanted to pop by today to highlight our scholarship programme which may have got overlooked by some of you in all the excitement. When planning this event, we decided that we’d very much like to offer the opportunity for one of you, who maybe might never be able to afford to attend the workshop, to be able to experience what we have to offer.

All you have to do for your chance to win a ticket to the event (the prize does not include travel or accommodation) is make a video telling us why you think you should come to The Blogcademy (hint: be creative!) Upload the video to YouTube or Vimeo and simply email us the link! You have until Sunday 16th September to get your videos to us. Then collectively we’ll pick our favourite and that lucky duck will be invited to hang out with us all weekend! Now wouldn’t that be fabulous?

Good luck everyone, we can’t wait to see what you come up with!
